I couldn’t quite believe my luck when I was invited to Jamaica for a 3 nights, all-inclusive stay at the newly refurbished Sandals South Coast. I received this opportunity as part of my day job as an Affiliate Marketing Manager, and all I knew was that I would be travelling with a selection of people working in the same industry as me and the dates of the trip.
On the morning of the trip I was really excited, well it certainly beat a day in the office, but I was a little nervous as I arrived at the airport to meet those who were also lucky enough to be travelling to Jamaica. I have travelled to quite a few all-inclusive resorts over the years but I was particularly excited about visiting Sandals as it has such a great reputation and is know for having luxury all-inclusive resorts. Especially as this trip was so unexpected I could not wait to drink my first frozen cocktail on a sun lounger, swimming pool or on the beach – either way it was going to be in the Caribbean which was so amazing! I have always wanted to go to the Caribbean so the fact that I was being taken as part of my job was a huge bonus.
Welcome to #sandalsaffiliatetrip2017!
Welcome to Jamaica
Even though the trip was only three nights I fell in love with Jamaica in this short time, in particular the people, music & the stunning beaches. I would love to go back to Jamaica for a long relaxing holiday and to have time to thoroughly explore the island. When we arrived in the airport our bus driver asked everyone if it was there first time in Jamaica, if it was he would respond “Welcome to Jamaica”. A couple of people in the group mentioned they had been to Jamaica before and then he would respond “Welcome Home!”, this was a nice little joke in Jamaica. Jamaicans make you feel very welcome and at ease meaning you feel at home very quickly on the beautiful island – I also found them very charismatic, funny & humble people to be around.
Throughout the trip we spent most of our time at the Sandals South Coast but we also had a day trip visiting Sandals Negril and Beaches Negril. All of the resorts were stunning and it was great to squeeze so much into a few days. In Negril there is a 7 mile beach that I would love to go back to on another trip to Jamaica.
Drink & Food
The food was amazing in all of the resorts, I am a fussy vegetarian at the best of times but there was a huge amount of variety to cater to all tastes. At Sandals South Coast there was a jerk shack, pizzeria, sushi bar among some of the options to choose from. In the day there was a café with a huge selection of coffees, ice cream and pastries – just what you need when trying to squeeze into that bikini.
Almost straight away I found my new favourite drink a house cocktails at the Sandals South beach resort, the Jamaican smile cocktail. It was a mixture between a piña colada and a frozen daiquiri – two of my favourite drinks, no wonder I loved it! Every drink you order at Sandals is high quality alcohol and the cocktails are what you would expect when ordering a cocktail on a night out. Talking of alcohol, you also have a large selection of alcohol in your rooms & depending on which level of room you are booked into you can have branded spirits, Gordons, Bacardi etc. On the trip we were booked into a Club level room & it was amazing – you get one bottle of bubbly every day in your room, what more can you possibly want? Room service is available 24 hours a day, and even though I didn’t try it – it’s amazing to have that option when you’re on holiday.
Latitudes – Over the water bar
One standout parts of the Sandals South Coast resort has to be the over the water bar – Latitudes. The bar has a fun atmosphere, relaxing hammocks to enjoy your cocktails in and such great views. The best time to visit the bar is around an hour before sunset, you can get a good spot, a couple of cocktails and enjoy the sunset. We spent quite a lot of time in this bar drinking cocktails and a couple of cheeky shots. Also coming in 2017 at Sandals South Coast are over the water bungalows, rumours are they are fully booked well into 2018 already.
There is an abundance of water sports available at the resorts from scuba diving to snorkelling, boat trips and sailing – what’s best is it’s included in your hotel booking. I just wish that we had been staying at the resort for longer to be able to make the most of everything they had to offer. The beach and pools are fabulous and there was plenty of options of where to relax on whichever takes your fancy. For a big resort everything is still relatively close together, we never had to walk too far even if we switched from the beach to the pool.
Weddings & honeymoons
Weddings and honeymoons are both very popular at Sandals resorts and Sandals South Coast is no different. I think if you’re considering Sandals for your honeymoon there is the perfect balance between relaxation and things to do, people to meet etc. For weddings at South Coast there are so many different options of possible ceremony spots, whether this is on the beach or over the water. I’m currently planning my wedding and it was really interesting to see how stunning getting married in the Caribbean could be.
I couldn’t recommend staying at a Sandals resort enough, they really do offer luxury included Caribbean holidays for couples and the staff really look after you during your stay. If you’re have your own family and thinking you think you’d like a Sandals holiday then you should consider Beaches, it’s part of the Sandals company offering the same quality of resorts but fit for families.
Thank you Sandals for a great trip – it was a great opportunity!
Since visiting Sandals South Coast in 2017 the over the water bungalows have opened. I saw these being built during my trip & I have no doubt they are going to be a huge hit.
Until next time.. Katie xo
